I wanted to talk about another free tool offered by Google: the Google Desktop.

Many of you have been using the Google Desktop for a long time. But for those who haven’t, you’re really missing out. The Google Desktop allows users to search for documents on their computer faster and easier then ever before.

The biggest difference between the Google Desktop search and the search built into Windows is speed. The Google Desktop does a full text key word search on all file types stored on your computer (including your e-mail) at a much faster rate than Windows. This allows users to quickly find what they what whenever they want it.

This can be very useful when trying to find a document – especially if you can’t remember where you saved it. For example, if you wrote a letter to John Smith two years ago and couldn’t remember what you named the file or where you saved it, you can type ‘Dear John’ in the search field and Google Desktop will search every file (Word, Excel, text, Power Point, e-mail, etc) on your computer. If the document has ‘Dear John’ in the file name or in its contents, it will show in the search results.

To download a free copy of Google Desktop, click the link below. And once again, have fun as you Google-It.
